23rd June: Magic Night of San Giovanni, 1 - La barca
Did you know that the night of June 23rd (the night between the 23rd and the 24th) is considered special and that, according to tradition, you can even glimpse the future?
Many traditions blend ancient pagan rites linked to the summer solstice with the Christian feast of Saint John the Baptist. For St. John’s Boat, just take nothing more than a glass of water and an egg white.
Here's what to do:
Fill a transparent glass container with water and gently pour in one egg white, separated from the yolk. (You can always cook the yolk!)
Leave the container outside overnight—preferably on a windowsill, in the garden, or on a balcony—so that it can collect the dew.
Observe what happens. On the morning of June 24th, look at the shape the egg white has formed in the water. Shapes resembling sails or other structures are traditionally interpreted as signs or omens for the future.
What does it mean?
-Open, well-defined "sails" are said to predict a period of good weather, good fortune, and prosperity.
-Closed or less distinct "sails" suggest rain, unsettled times, or a few challenges ahead.
-Other shapes, such as an egg or a tower, may carry specific meanings related to pregnancy, a move or other important life events.
A word of caution: the interpretation of the shapes is entirely subjective—and that's part of the fun!

Tante tradizioni fondono antichi riti pagani legati al solstizio d’estate e la festa cristiana di San Giovanni. Per esempio, per la Barca di San Giovanni, prendi un bicchiere d’acqua e un albume d’uovo. Ecco cosa fare:
1. Riempi un contenitore di vetro trasparente, con acqua e lascia cadere delicatamente un albume d'uovo, separato dal tuorlo. (Puoi cucinare il tuorlo!)
2. Metti il contenitore all'aperto durante la notte, preferibilmente su un davanzale, in giardino o sul balcone, per catturare la rugiada.
3. Osserva: La mattina del 24 giugno, si osserva la forma che l'albume ha assunto nell'acqua. Le forme che ricordano vele o altre strutture possono essere interpretate come presagi per il futuro.
Significato:
Le "vele" aperte e ben definite indicano un periodo di bel tempo e prosperità.
Le "vele" chiuse o poco definite suggeriscono piogge e maltempo, qualche problemino.
Altre forme, come quella di un uovo o di una torre, possono avere significati specifici legati a gravidanza o altri eventi.
